Kannadigas
in Delhi remember Tipu Sultan
New Delhi : A large number of Kannada-speaking
people here celebrated the bicentenary of the death of Tipu
Sultan, popularly known as the Tiger of Mysore.
Inaugurating the celebration here
on Sunday, organised by the Dehali Kannadiga, a Kannada
monthly published from Delhi, its editor and a writer, M.B.Samaga,
said Tipu fought against the British and did not submit
himself to the paramountcy of a foreign power. After introducing
many reforms, Tipu made Mysore, a prosperous and progressive
State of India, during the 18th century.
Mr.Samaga urged the Union government
to install a statue of Tipu in Delhi and introduce a daily
superfast express train between Mysore and Delhi and name
it after him. (PTI)
