"Give aid to Tipu's Kin"

Calcutta : The Congress on Thursday demanded proper preservation of the wakf properties in West Bengal and grant of financial assistance to the poor descendants of the former Sultan of Mysore living in the metropolis. Speaking at the bicentenary celebrations of the martyrdom of Tipu Sultan, senior WBPCC Congress leaders alleged that the state government had not taken any move to recover the illegally transferred wakf property of Tipu Sultan in the metropolis. They also demanded that the Vajpayee government organise a national level programme to commemorate Tipu's martyrdom. The programme, organised by the PCC, was attended by senior leaders like Pradip Bhattacharya, Idris Ali, Sultan Ahmed, MLA and others who called for emulating ideals of Tipu.
